Lisa Danials

Lisa is an adult nurse who qualified six years ago, currently working as a community staff nurse in health visiting. She lives and works in London. Living with post-traumatic arthritis (osteoarthritis) in her left ankle, which resulted from a road accident in France when she was 15 years old, this has caused anxiety and changed her life. The inadequate care she received as a teenager inspired her to become the nurse that advocates for her patients. “Initially, everyone I spoke to tried to discourage me from pursuing my career path. They cited the long 12-hour shifts, the standing, walking, and stress I’d encounter. Despite these challenges, I’m still standing. Since my diagnosis, my life has changed dramatically, but I am determined to focus on my capabilities, not my limitations. I refuse to let my non-visible disability limit my goals. Instead, I break through challenges to raise awareness on her instagram @you2cannurse. I champion diverse nurses and allied health professionals who deliver excellent, evidence-based care while managing chronic, non-visible disabilities themselves.” She recently started a YouTube channel to discuss these experiences and will soon talk about her transition from bedside nursing to working in the community as a staff nurse in health visiting. The support she received and the visibility she provides for nurses living with non-visible disabilities have been invaluable. She is also a proud mom of a 22-month-old girl and a practice supervisor.
